True story. In 2003, my husband Keith and I were meeting with a marriage counselor. At one point late in the session the counselor said to me, “I know what Andy Stanley thinks. What does Susan Conley think?” It was in that “whoa moment” that I realized I’d put Andy Stanley on too high a pedestal. But you have to understand, Andy Stanley was used by God in mighty ways when I hit ROCKbottom. I am forever grateful to him!
In 2001, Keith and I were church shopping. Again. My personal trainer at the time suggested North Point Community Church. We visited in June of that year. After the shock wore off from the church’s sheer size, contagious energy, rockin’ music, simple service format and the jumbo video screens, we settled in to learn from one of the best communicators of our time. Andy Stanley helped me connect all the dots. Dots my religion just couldn’t connect. The notion of a growing relationship with Jesus Christ was brand new to me. North Point’s mission is to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Mission accomplished when it comes to me. Andy’s simply profound messages week in and week out coupled with my own Bible study during the week, prompted me to get baptized in December 2001 and join the church. It was the most peace-filled day of my life.
I want to share Andy with you. Just be aware that he might impact you deeply and often to the point you start quoting him far too often. You’ve been warned.
