<\/a>Get this! A potential golden opportunity of global proportions turned tragic when an outside observer tried to set foot into a Christian church.<\/p>\n

Mahatma Gandhi is one of the best known figures of India\u2019s history and the champion of non-violent protest.\u00a0 He was the pre-eminent political and ideological leader of India during the Indian Independence movement.\u00a0 During one sojourn to South Africa, Gandhi came into contact with the Gospel \u2013 the salvation story of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 He was very intrigued by it.\u00a0 He began fervently studying the Bible.\u00a0 He grew increasingly captivated by the teachings of Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Gandhi was so interested in learning more about this so-called Savior that he went to a church.\u00a0 He was turned away.\u00a0 The church did not accept people of his race.\u00a0 Gandhi later said, \u201cI like your Christ, I do not like your Christians.\u00a0 Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ouch.<\/p>\n

Gandhi experienced first hand the stark contrast that can exist between Jesus and those of us who follow Him.\u00a0 If you\u2019re reading this apology, odds are you\u2019ve experienced this stark contrast too.\u00a0 We\u2026make that I\u2026can be such a judgmental, selfish, hateful, unforgiving, self-righteous, holier-than-thou hypocrite.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d like to apologize on behalf of all of us Christians who have messed it up.\u00a0 I am sorry for all the times I made it impossible for you to see Jesus.\u00a0 I am sorry for all the times I did not extend love to you.\u00a0 I am sorry for all the times we\u2019ve made you the target of our destructive debates about doctrine.\u00a0 I am sorry for the hypocrisy that casts a dark shadow on the luminous authenticity of the God I trust and adore.\u00a0 Will you forgive me?\u00a0 Will you forgive us?<\/p>\n

Would you consider placing perfect Jesus in His very own category?\u00a0 He deserves to be differentiated.\u00a0 He deserves His own category because He, like a magnetic force, always attracts.\u00a0 We, His followers, often repel.\u00a0 Far too frequently, I\u2019m afraid.\u00a0 That\u2019s just what happens in this broken world with this race we call human.\u00a0 You can forget perfect.<\/p>\n

I believe without a doubt that Christ founded the church and as with all things divinely created \u201cIt is good.\u201d\u00a0 He built it on one proclamation. A truth ALL Christians can agree on.\u00a0 (Imagine that!)\u00a0 The bedrock of our faith is the statement Peter, one of Jesus\u2019 very imperfect disciples, made when Jesus asked him, \u201cWHO do you say I am?\u201d\u00a0 Peter answered, \u201cYou are the Christ the Son of the Living God.\u201d\u00a0 It is on this timeless truth, on this unshakeable foundation, that Christ built His church and commissioned us to continue the work He started.<\/p>\n

\u201cWHO do you say I am?\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s when we lose sight of the \u201cWHO\u201d that we really hurt you.\u00a0 We can so easily turn legalistic and divert our attention to \u201cWHAT\u201d we do and \u201cHOW\u201d we do things and \u201cWHEN\u201d we\u2019re supposed to be \u201cWHERE.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s religion.<\/p>\n

My greatest discovery ever is that it\u2019s the relationship not the religion that ROCKS.\u00a0 It\u2019s all about the \u201cWHO\u201d and how He lived and loved.\u00a0 The greatest ROCKstar<\/em> of all time.\u00a0 Jesus Christ.\u00a0 We his people are to BE CHRIST in this world and love you and every single person we come in contact with.\u00a0 Sorry for all the times we missed the mark.\u00a0 Please don\u2019t let us get in the way!<\/p>\n
